OTRLFV (Under construction)
Multipurpose room en Liceo Francés of Valencia
2014 - 2017
A new cylinder in harmony with the ones which already exist, is integrated naturally through the interstitial spaces that give life and meaning to the LFV. At the same time, a structural proposal, directly linked to the circular architectural form allows to solve, without apparent effort, a light of more than 30m, achieving an access opening completely free of structural elements.
The circular access ramp rises from the lower level to the ground floor, where the walls of the cylinder are born on the slab, without necessary continuity to the basement, thanks to the rigidity provided by the great bending edge of the walls. In addition to this, it’s important the stiffening effect provided by the curved shape, so that the upper circular body behaves practically as a rigid solid punctually supported on the crosses coincident with the basement walls.
Additionally, the intermediate levels, constructed by inclined and flat slabs, act as diaphragms of the circumferential wall of the cylinder, so that the assembly is even more effective against flexing, so wide openings can be made without any significant impact on the bearing structure.
Finally, on the roof we used a light mixed slab supported by means of metal secondary beams, which, once, rest on a large reinforced one and a truss, adapted to the to the interior available height of the room.
